The family vacation is a timeless tradition- when summer arrives, kids have more energy than ever, and everyone could use a break by being out of the house. Suffice to say, in this day and age, sometimes it can be difficult not to have a vacation break the bank. It’s easy to get caught in a line of thinking that you can’t have a genuinely enjoyable experience on a budget, but Pasco, WA’s Seth Whitmer, a family man and executive for healthcare organizations, has five destinations that will allow you to have fun and be frugal at the same time!

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

One of the most famous national parks in the world, Yellowstone has a rich and colourful history as a tourist attraction. With affordable pricing, you can enjoy a plethora of outgoing activities and explorations. First on the list is the world famous ‘Old Faithful’, the largest active geyser in the world with a breathtaking eruption. Supplementing this are hundreds of visually spectacular hot springs with vivid colors and massive sizes. In addition, Hiram Seth Whitmer states there is the opportunity to see one of the highest concentrations of wild animals in the U.S. including grizzly bears, eagles, moose, gray wolves, and the world’s largest bison herd. This area is also great for hiking, rafting, fishing and camping.

Royal Caribbean Cruises

Royal Caribbean International is a well-known cruise line with many destinations, including Alaska, Norway, the Panama Canal and of course, the Caribbean. Throughout 2019, Royal Caribbean International is offering a promotion where children under the age of 12 sail free. This discount can be combined with the ‘WOW Sale’ promotion, giving up to an additional 60% off for an additional guest in the same stateroom. The cruises in question have enough activities available that Seth Whitmer states you will be hard-pressed to run out of things to do. He further states that there are water parks, arcades, zip-lines, rock climbing walls, mini-golf courses, game shows, and more. There are also several different classes offered, including courses on dancing, culinary arts and even the trapeze.

Rome, Italy

Rome, Italy is another vacation destination with a lot to do for a reasonable price tag. An iconic tourist attraction, it features a massive Colosseum with guided tours that go over its detailed history as the arena for the gladiators of old. There are also the catacombs, which Seth Whitmer explains is a series of underground tunnels used by early Christians; these make for an exciting and spooky tour. It’s also definitely worth trying some of the street food here to get a taste of Italy. With dozens of vendors specializing in fun foods such as pizza and gelato, you’re bound to find something everyone will enjoy. Finally, there are several museums in the area, including some specifically geared towards kids such as ‘Explora’ with some fun interactive exhibits.

Niagara Falls, New York & Ontario, Canada

Whether you’re visiting from the New York side or the Ontario side, Niagara Falls is an iconic destination with great prices to boot. There are a variety of things to do here, including boat rides that provide a closer look at the base of the falls, an underground walking path that leads to the underside of the falls for a majestic view, the eclectic collection of museums and shops at Clifton hill (very close by), and finally the Butterfly Conservatory, which features thousands of butterflies in a rainforest-style environment.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, the Disney-owned Pop Century Resort is perhaps one of the lesser known Disney-related attractions, but it is definitely an economic hotel choice that still manages to retain some of the perks associated with the more expensive resorts, including transportation to and from the airport and theme parks. With the same great Disney theming we’ve all come to know and love from Disneyland and Disneyworld, there is still plenty to do here, including outdoor pools with evening movies, a playground, a variety of fun activities (including trivia challenges, relay races and rocket launches) and even ordering pizza via delivery.

Seth Whitmer’s Final Thoughts

The process of booking a great vacation might seem daunting, especially when it comes to getting a great deal in an affordable price range, but now you have a starting point to go off of. Whatever destination you choose, remember that everything in this list represents a more affordable option for families, while certainly not being short on fun!
